Never used XGL/Compiz? No wonder so many people drool over the stupid interface of Vista.

I hate people when they try to get too sweet and too friendly with you, as I always suspected they would want something from me.I think thats why I hate these *user friendly* Vista type/Beryl environment, I know they will eventually make me buy those fancy graphics card... and I will give in and buy them, and I will be stuck paying credit card all my life. :-(& i have been saving money for 4 months to get a 2x2 Xeon workstation - & 31st march I realize its better to invest that money in mutual funds & save tax

Compiz is working on Kororaa perfectly, it comes pre-installed. But I can't get it to work on Feisty Fawn and PCLinuxOS. Both of them have Compiz/Beryl pre-installed. I think my graphic card (ATI Radeon 200 Xpress) is not supported.

You dont need a fancy gfx card to make Beryl/Compiz work. All you need is the latest Intel Onboard Gfx. They very nifty and powerful things :) I have a Core2Duo machine and all the effects work amazingly well and it has actually boosted my productivity! :) Its not just eye candy, unlike vista! :p

What could be the possible reason? Working perfectly on Kororaa, but not on Ubuntu/PCLinuxOS.

well most probably the version of X11 server must be different. Some driver which is present in Kororaa isn't present in Ubuntu/PCLinuxOS. Also, the kernel maybe patched! I dunno... u gotta figure it out! :)

^ Dude, it does support XGL/Compiz, you need to have the appropriate drivers. It works on my system (I have the same card), but when I use those drivers (some proprietary ones, I don't remember the name), my resolution and refresh rate is unstable. My monitor menu (the one you get on pressing the menu button on the monitor) shows the resolution in kHz instead of showing it as ____X____  .

bumping in a old topic but i think you are missing part where you first install ati radeon kernel drivers and make xserver use it ( it might be using vesa ) . Since kororaa jumps out of gpl a bit and includes all proprietary graphic card drivers , it can run beryl without a problem .
