Avatar The Way of Water.webp

Jake Sully lives with his newfound family formed on the planet of Pandora. Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na'vi race to protect their planet.

Maybe one of them would be a prequel.
According to Variety, Cameron will collaborate with Josh Friedman ("War of the Worlds"), Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver ("Rise of the Planets of the Apes"), and Shane Salerno ("Savages") on the screenplays for "Avatar 2," "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4." Twentieth Century Fox will release the movies from 2016 through 2018, each time likely in December.

Next sequel in 2016? that is very long time.

I am guessing they would work on the three movies together and release them with a gap of one year.

Still these sequels will have blockbuster earnings. Although I don't get what they might show.... Maybe humans returning again for revenge? And the Na'vi firing guns?

James Cameron Sets Sigourney Weaver to Return in Three Avatar Sequels
James Cameron has set Sigourney Weaver to return in the three Avatar sequels scheduled to begin production later this year, the Oscar-winning filmmaker announced today.
Weaver joins previously announced cast returnees Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldana and Stephen Lang.
Commented James Cameron: "Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made 'Aliens.' We're good friends who've always worked well together,
so it just feels right that she's coming back for the 'Avatar' sequels. Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she's playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films. We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration."

James Cameron’s long-awaited and oft-delayed follow-up to “Avatar” has been pushed back another year. “Avatar 2” will hit theaters on December 17, 2021 instead of December 18, 2020 as originally planned. Its move means that “Avatar 3” will open on December 22, 2023 as opposed to December 17, 2021 while “Avatar 4” will bow on December 19, 2025 instead of December 20, 2024. The news comes as part of a larger shift in release dates unveiled by Walt Disney Studios.
