Apple: US Government is asking us to build a backdoor on our software
from my understanding. fbi is not asking them to decrypt the phone. they want them to update the software to make it easy for them to unlock the phone.
for example... Apple makes it hard for an automated system to run bruteforce attack on the pin code on the phone. right now from what i have read, the phone erases itself if there are too many false tries. fbi just wants that limit gone or something like that so that they can run an automated tool to unlock the phone without erasing the data on it.
apple can of course fix this and cannot claim that it is not technically possible.
