This feature could delay the launch in countries like India where any satellite communication device needs to be registered with the government. Maybe Apple will simply skip this modem for Indian handsets. But then imports and smuggling would be a problem.

Also band n53 is a highly sought after band for 5G services so it remains to be seen if the government would authorise its use in the country for uses other than terrestrial 5G, or even ban foreign LEO operators altogether.

The feature will be disabled in India for sure.

But the utility would be significant in remote locations such as Lahaul and such. I remember climbing a hill, just to make a phone call via satellite.
