Sourav Ganguly may replace Duncan Fletcher as India coach: report - IBNLive
According to a report in The Indian Express, a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) insider has revealed that the former India captain has put in an informal word to the new BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya about his interest to replace Duncan Fletcher, whose tenure as India coach ended after the World Cup.
...
"Sourav's achievements as a cricketer and his tactical acumen present a strong case. But he has to apply for the job," the source told the newspaper. "They (Ganguly and Dalmiya) had a discussion but Dalmiya didn't give him any assurance," he said.
Candidates interested in the job need to apply, after which they will make a presentation and be interviewed by BCCI officials and former India captains. Dalmiya, however, isn't revealing his cards yet. "Wait for 10-odd days and you will get know," he told The Indian Express.
...
Interestingly, the CAB insider also revealed that some sections of the BCCI also want Rahul Dravid to join the race. "Dravid is a hugely respected figure and is doing a great job as Rajasthan Royals mentor/coach. We want someone to take this young team forward...Dravid would be a top candidate, but like Ganguly, he, too, has to apply for the job if he's interested," he said.
...
But the board, according to the source, is open to various possibilities, including a review of the Team Director's post currently held by Ravi Shastri. The continuation or axing of the position depends on the coach BCCI hires. If it's a high-profile coach, the board may discontinue with the post, while in case of a low-profile coach like Sanjay Bangar, the team set-up may continue with a Team Director in place.
If indeed Ganguly wants to be coach, what will happen of Sourav Ganguly joining BJP? • Politics ?

That may actually be reason why he may be offered coach's role!!

Dont forget that cricket and politics are highly linked!

Sourav Ganguly denies speculations that he was offered Team India's coaching job - IBNLive

Ganguly made it clear that he wants to focus on cricket administration and is not keen on coaching India right now. Earlier, according to a report in The Indian Express, a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) insider has revealed that the former India captain has put in an informal word to the new BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya about his interest to replace Duncan Fletcher, whose tenure as India coach ended after the World Cup.

My vote goes to Gangualy. Most legends of recent time Dhoni, Yuvraj, Harbhajan, Sehwag were indentified by him. Dhoni is a better captain tactics wise, but not a team builder as good as Saurav.

Sourav Ganguly to replace Ravi Shastri as Team India Director? - IBNLive
According to a report in the Hindustan Times on Monday, loyalists of the out-of-favour former board president N Srinivasan are on their way out of the BCCI, and Shastri is considered pro-Srinivasan.
...
The newspaper, through its sources within the board, has learned that Shastri is considered close to Srinivasan and hence new BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya is not keen on him as Team India Director and wants Ganguly in a similar capacity.
So they don't need coach anymore? because BCCI is not looking for new coach.

They say BCCI will appoint Ganguly as High Performance Manager and appoint batting, fielding and bowling coaches.

They should also add fast bowling coach, spin bowling coach, right hand batting coach, left hand batting coach, wicketkeeping coach, drinks carrying coach , a coach on what to do when you travel for a 3 month tour and do not play a single game...

If Ganguly becomes Team Director, is there not a risk of him becoming non-playing Captain like Indian tennis team 😀

Well I don't think he will mess at match level. He was quite vocal that coach's job ends once players walk on the field during his days.. But Ganguly being Ganguly can't say...

I wonder how many in the team today even like him today. Kohli and the likes do not appear to be the kind of players that would like too much interference with their gaming strategy.

BCCI's offer may make Ravi Shastri world's highest paid cricket coach
Team director Ravi Shastri will be the new India coach, BCCI sources have told HT. The Rs 7 crore-a-year-deal that will make the former skipper the highest paid cricket coach in the world is likely to be announced at the end of the Bangladesh tour.
...
The Board of Control for Cricket in India, said sources, stopped looking for a new coach after Test captain Virat Kohli told them he wanted Shastri in the dressing room.
...
Shastri, who had a Rs 4-crore a year contract with the BCCI as a TV commentator, will be the first cricket coach to be paid more than a $1 million (about rs 6.4 crore). He drew about Rs 6 crore annually as team director until the World Cup.
Fletcher, who joined Team India in 2011, was paid Rs 4.2 crore a year.
😱
