Amazon to lead with films and sports for Prime Video launch

Amazon India on Monday announced a content partnership with film studio Dharma Productions for its online television service, Prime Video India, which is expected to launch next year.

“Amazon Inc. is pursuing video rights to a wide range of sports, including the French Open tennis championship and professional rugby,” a 10 September Bloomberg report said.

So live sports and movies are going to be their main focus.

dunno. it was highlighted in the Amazon prime button in the top bar on the website. after clicking it once, the image switched back to prime deals.

Amazon Prime Video is finally going global to give Netflix some serious competition

Right now only one show — The Grand Tour is confirmed for global audiences. But it seems likely that Amazon will either launch other shows at the same time, or at least bring them to market internationally very quickly to capitalize on the popularity of Top Gear

Already, it looks like Amazon is quietly making its shows available in some additional countries this week. Media reported that users in Australia can now access the service on the web — though mobile apps are not available locally yet — and it could be that other countries have also been let in without fanfare.

Amazon’s music service might be the next to expand.
