Amazon Echo Dot, Prime Music Are Coming Soon to India

The launch, where the company would unveil both the Echo Dot and Prime Music, could happen as soon as Diwali (mid-October), one of these people said.

The company has been testing the Echo Dot at its office in Bangalore for at least one month, another person familiar with the matter said.

In India, the Echo Dot will support Prime Music and Gaana, people said.

The report claimed that the Echo Dot would be priced between Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 6,000. A source familiar with the matter told Gadgets 360 that the price of Echo Dot, available at $50 in the United States, will be under the Rs. 3,000 mark in India.

Prime Music, which the company is planning to launch alongside the Echo Dot in India this year, is likely to be part of the Prime subscription service, which Amazon launched in India last year and has been offering at a discounted price of Rs. 499, which may be increased soon.

Play Music
Alexa offers a seamless, hands-free music experience with premier music services including Amazon Prime Music, Saavn, TuneIn, and more. Control volume and playback for millions of songs by saying “Alexa, turn it up” or “Alexa, skip this song.” If you aren’t sure who an artist is, just say “Alexa, which song is this?”

Amazon Prime Music will soon be available as an exclusive preview to invite-only Echo customers at no additional cost. Customers can enjoy their favorite music ad-free and on-demand across a wide catalogue of English and multiple Indian language songs. Listening to music with Alexa is as simple as saying “Alexa, play Bollywood songs” or “Alexa, play Arijit Singh songs.” If you’re in the mood to relax, say “Alexa, play smooth jazz,” or for your morning workout, simply say “Alexa, play my workout mix.” Amazon Prime Music is coming soon exclusively for Prime members at no extra cost.

Listen to Music Everywhere
You can also group multiple Echo devices and synchronise them to stream the same music in every room. Simply use the Alexa App to create groups with two or more Echo devices by naming the group, such as “drawing room.” Once you’ve created the group, simply say “Alexa, play Bhangra in the drawing room.”

Amazon.in: Press Releases

music.amazon.com has a pretty awful ui from the looks of it.
the native app seems to be a wrapper for the website using electron.
using it is going to be painful whenever it is opened for the indian prime subscribers.

So I got the mobile app from the Google Play store. Thought it would work because it is now available via Alexa on my Echo, It looked promising as after I logged in it asked for Music preferences, and the choices were English/Hindi/Punjabi/Bhojpuri etc. Then it has the alexa tab to ask for the music, which when clicked prompts for Indian Music artists, but of course there were empty results(Alexa responds in Indian English Voice) and empty tabs, and at on point it finally told " Amazon Prime Music is not available in your country, go to Amazon cloud to upload your music".

This confirms that it is coming to India with full bang, but not yet!!

the desktop app asks of you to get prime. which then opens up a blank screen at the top of the app ui 😀

you cannot check out the library at the moment. but it's not extensive. prime music has two versions in usa. one is free limited one included for free in prime. we are probably getting this. the other one is paid which is more extensive.
