It may take a while before Airtel becomes the No.1 Telecom company in India (if it happens), but in just 6 months from now airtel's gsm service which has 27 million customers will become 34 million. That will be higher than the 33 million landline connection which BSNL serves. BSNL's Bfone service is the No.1 service in India with 33 million customers now. But Airtel which is listed in stockmarkets may take it.May be BSNL must be listed in stockmarkets so that there may be a few well-wishers for BSNL!Note: Airtel's GSM service will become India's no.1 serviceAND will NOTbecome No.1 telecom company in 6 months. For more, visit my blog. Thanks

What happens when you combine Airtel LANDLINE customers to GSM customers !!!

In what way do you think Airtel is already bigger than BSNL?By stock market value?Even if so, I dont agree because bsnl would be atleast slightly larger in valuation.Note here that only when IPTV is launched, the hidden value of BSNL's landline assets will pay. So, it will take a lot of time for airtel to become no.1 player.Airtel must wait for 4G if they want to become a big enough IPTV player!

wikipedia has the figures from august...

Although Bharti Airtel is the largest mobile service provider, BSNL, the state run mobile and wireline service provider is the market leader as of 30 August 2006 customer's base.[/b]

hmm. interesting.
