Airtel Broadband Network Connection Problem

Having aa Airtel broadband 64 Kbps connection, with DHCP enabled in modem..I am able to ping my modem and DNS servers , but not able to browse a website..Checked the LAN setting , they are correct...but modem is not assigning DHCP assigned IP address to system when "Obtain an IP address automatically" is checked..Also not able to open modem console on 192.168.1.1...flagging an error "cannot open the search page" ..As modem and DNS servers are pingable , I think problem is with some system configuration which I am not able to figure out ????Some sort of DNS and redir.dll error is flagged when trying to browse a website..what can be the problem and why modem is not able to communicate back to system??
