Airtel Broadband is insecure

While looking for ways to map my port using Yozan router, typed my IP in the browser an lo behold my router administration page opened up, a quick ip scan listed a number of IP's where the router administration page opened up. Tried the usual admin:admin or admin:1234 and whooo i could access their router settings, further if I saved the Airtel acount and password page to my local drive I could use a number of password ulitities which unmasks the password....hows that for security!!My advice to all is to change the router default login and password immediately, if you do not know how ask Airtel people to do so and make sure only you know the new password not even the Airtel guy.

You can get access to the Airtel account password which can be misused, as happened to me once, someone used my account for more than 30 hours X Rs 30/Hr=900 Rs. Had to fight with Airtel for charge reversal. Most of us use the same password for our Airtel email ID so there goes your privacy. The impact is more for corporate clients.

 Let me get one thing clear. I thought the web dist page comes up only on THIS side of the nat, right? I mean, that's the only way a web server can be run on the lan to the wan, right? Sorry if its too basic.

my modem configuration page comes if you type my IP on your browser. sucks. but that is the way it is. you cannot use your system as a ftp server normally...

Use the DMZ feature of ur router. That opens the local IP u select to the internet. Host ur server on that selected IP.Good luck. Happy Hosting... :D
