This is a general query but I'm posting it here since I use an Airtel connection. So I have the Airtel 220bx modem. Its connected to a Netgear wireless router which is in turn connected to my pc.Now, I can access the the netgear router via 192.168.1.1 or routerlogin.com. But how may I access the Airtel modem now which is connected to the netgear router? Currently I have no way of accessing it and each time I have to physically remove its connection to the wifi router and connect it directly with the PC. Is there any way by which I may access it without fiddling with the wires? The setup is as follows : The phone line is in the Airtel modem. The LAN cable from the airtel modem goes into the input of the netgear router. The output of the netgear rouer goes into the PC NIC.

Airtel and Netgear should have different IP addresses.Gateway to Internet will be 192.168.1.1 and netgear should be out side the DHCP range you selected in Airtel Are you using Dialup/Wanminiport/"Bridged mode" to connect ?When you programmed the netgear did you get an option for IP release and Ip renew /( with TCP/IP obtain Ip address automatically )

and also ensure that if Netgear ip is 192.168.1.x then even airtel modem should be 192.168.1.y not 192.168.0.x NOTE: x not equal to y .. and as essbebe mentioned not within dhcp range

I'm sorry but I couldn't get what both of you said. As I've described my setup in the first post, the phone line goes into the Airtel Beetel 220BX modem. The output ethernet cable from the Airtel modem goes into the input of the Netgear router. The Airtel modem is in bridged mode and DHCP is disabled in it. The Netgear modem dials the internet and is configured to run as the DHCP server. Here are screenshots from both the routers.

I hope this makes my situation more clear to you guys.

you have an ip conflict here.. both airtel modem and your Netgear has 192.168.1.1 .. change your airtel modem ip to 192.168.100 .. that should do it

Post details of ipconfig/allor Start/Network/LAN/status/ support details.

DUDE!! same problem, but i fixed it.its really simple like superprash2003 said..i've got a D-Link 524 router, its ip address is 192.168.0.1the 220bx has ip 192.168.1.1 just make sure your wifi router has an ip other than the 220bx one and it will work. reply tell us if it works!

Well i tried all the solutions that you guys mentioned but none of them seem to work. I changed the 220BX's IP to 192.168.1.100 restarted everything but it doesn't work. It doesn't even ping it. Tried changing the Netgear IP to 192.168.0.1 and keeping the 220BX IP to 192.168.1.1 but still nothing showed up.

Here's the result of ipconfig/all

What seems to be the problem here?

Suggestion 1: Are you using VISTA ? disable IPV6 in TCP/IP properties.Suggestion 2: Try "Always On" instead of dialer mode either in modem or wifi. routerSuggestion 3: IN TCP/IP select Obtain IP address automatically.Modem and router cannot have same IP 192.168.1.1 and both outside the DHCP range192.168.1.4 to 192.168.1 20(say)192.168.1.1 usually for modem.192.168.1.2 usually for USB.

leave the Netgear ip to 192.168.1.1 .. ensure that netgear dhcp range is around 192.168.1.3 - 192.168.1.20 (as essbebe mentioned).. and leave beetel modem ip to 192.168.1.100..

Hi, ALL OF YOU ARE WRONG.... If you want to access modem interface through the Netgear router. ONLY ONE solution is there:- Modem IP:- 192.168.1.1 DHCP: (192.168.1.2 -192.168.1.254) Modem Should have the username & password of your ISP Router IP:- 192.168.2.1 DHCP: (192.168.2.2 - 192.168.2.254) Router WILL NOT have the username & password of your ISP Then you can use BOTH the router interface by (192.168.2.1) as well as modem interface by (192.168.1.1) from any computers which is connected through the router !!! Hi,

ALL OF YOU ARE WRONG....

If you want to access modem interface through the Netgear router. ONLY ONE solution is there:-

Level-2 Network Engineer

Time to demote you to Level -1 🙂

Friend, it is not a must that he should use 192.168.1.1 and 2.1

[*]He can use any IP in that subnet ! IP should be different !
[*]You can bridge the modem and give username and password in router also (still it will work)
[*]Issue was a conflict, both having same IP, if you change to different IP's without conflict, it should work !
[*]One of the above replied person has set it for his computer and made it working. So he saying from his own modem/router
[*]Others who replied also helped many with these kind of setup as this is not a big problem for those who knows basic knowledge of Network !
[*]Only issue is communicating without having all details, that is why the delay in rectifying the problem !
[*]You might have said in a simple way than others ! (you never mentioned what it for, others have mentioned why it happened)
So, If you read others suggestions, you will actually see they said the same thing as you said ! (to keep both IP different and without conflict)

Cheers !

ONLY ONE solution is there
Its not always the case in networking mate. There is no ONE solution. There are many ways to do stuff.Your method is correct too but that doesnt mean that what other users have mentioned earlier are wrong.

If you can post a screen shot for the settings ,as I have done, it will help
novices like me. ( never attended computer school or got any certificate .)
http://i30.tinypic.com/2vrze6p.jpg

See Post No 2 ;When you programmed the Netgear did you get an option for IP release and Ip renew /
( with TCP/IP obtain Ip address automatically )
This will give the different IP address for the router.

Para two :
Experts like you are always welcome, but should understand, that
not everyone here is a level 2 Network engineer, ( and even if somebody is level 5 does not mention it . How many levels are there ? googling ! )

Update : 1030 AM Confirmed there are Five levels. ( 1 to 5 only )
I am on level 0 ( like so many others !) but not listed.
