Airtel Blocking VoIP Services?

Hi all:Finally, a post to say that my AC-211-SR VOIP router registers with SIP phone again and everything is fine. After making all kinds of changes (suggested by Cyberwiz/essbebe), I was about to give up. Then, to compare my tracert with what Cyberwiz was getting, I went co command line and typed:tracert proxy01.sippphone.comI did not mention any port(like 5060) as that seemed to time out after 30 tries. It finally came back around 400 ms (almost 1/2 a second) and it was a lot slower than what cyberwiz posted and slower than what I used to get (on ping - around 100ms).With this information, I accessed the only page on my AC-211-SR that I had not checked before, viz. SIP->SIP EXTENSIONS. There, I believe that the values for SIP session timer value and SIP registration timer value were blank. I changed those 2 values to 60 (secs).I then reset my router (re-booted my VOIP router) and voila, it came back with the VOIP/Voice light lit-up. I got a dial tone too! Made a few test calls and everything works fine for now. It's been 3-4 hours since I made the change and everything works for now.The only bit of education that I might have gotten out of all this mess is that:maybe, around the time of the Airtel undersea cable fault late 2008, the # of hops (as shown by tracert) from airtel to sipphone.com increased significantly (mine now uses at least 20 before registering with proxy01.sipphone.com), causing some hardware adapters with insufficient SIP registration timers to no longer register correctly.I wonder if vvijayshankar is experiencing the same issue (also using gizmo project ata, except using a Linksys device instead of ac-211).Thank you all (espl. cyberwiz and essbebe for helping out a lot!). Now, I am back to the phone again (to talk, rather than poke around settings).

I too face the same problem. When i ping proxy01.sipphone.com, it resolves the IP as 127.0.0.1. I spoke with Airtel technician, he said they have received order from TRAI to block all VOIP websites. But i am not sure how accurate the information is. I did "telnet proxy01.sipphone.com 5060", It failed. I then tried "telnet 198.65.166.131 5060", it goes thru. But i when i register my ATA's proxy as 198.65.166.131, it is not registering. Do anyone have a solution or suggestion to resolve my issues ?

that looks like a DNS issue..replace the DNS server specified in ATA to 4.2.2.1 or 208.67.222.222

Now, Everything seems to be blocked. I tried all these : telnet proxy01.sipphone.com 5060 telnet 198.65.166.131 5060 telnet fwd.pulver.com 5060 telnet 69.90.155.70 5060 telnet us.voxalot.com 5060 telnet 64.34.173.199 5060 They are all blocked. But this is only in the case of airtel. On BSNL network everything works fine. I doubt if BSNL is going to leave it open for long.....

I have been using Gizmo5 or SipPhone for close to 2 years. My parents have returned back after a 6 month trip to US. Now when we connected PAP2T instrument it is not connecting. We are using Airtel at home. When I tried doing a ping to proxy01.sipphone.com it is printing the ip as 127.0.0.1 (local loop back).

When I called Airtel customer support they stated that all ISP's have blocked this IP. I have asked them to ping and "telnet proxy01.sipphone.com 5060" observed that they are also facing the same problem. But it is working from BSNL. Customer support has requested for the tracert from Airtel and BSNL. I guess they might remove the local loop back or IP blocking. If this is done we can connect again using Gizmo.

TROUBLE AGAIN.

After about 2 weeks of things working fine, my VOIP router (AC-211-SR) again failed to register with SIPPHONE. I logged into my PC (connected to the AC-211-SR) and tried to do both a ping to proxy01.sipphone.com and do a tracert.

Here are my findings:
C:\TEMP>telnet proxy01.sipphone.com 5060

Why copy/paste ping data for 30 attempts ?Thanks for not posting 100 attempts !Scrolling the page and reading the post, we miss valid info.Try System restore or go back to previous settingif saved for modem/router/gizmo.Airtel working fine with Vonage VOIP. here in Chennai.

@ BSNL_airtel ..its a DNS problem..specify the following DNS addresses in ur ATA/ router and desktop lan card settingsprim DNS : 4.2.2.1secondary DNS : 208.67.222.222

strange.. it shouldnt point to 127.0.0.1 though.. it could be your hosts file what does the windows hosts file say ? C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Now a days on both Yahoo as well as skype, voice chat session is terminated in 30 minutes exact on Airtel DSL connection.

I changed my computer's TCIP settings to use these 2 DNS servers. I also changed the Airtel Beetel dsl modem's DNS entries by logging to 192.168.1.1/main.html and clicking on advanced and then DNS.

I rebooted the airtel router/modem first and then rebooted my voip ata and then my computer.

Now, it no longer does a loop back to 127.0.0.1. But, the problem still remains and there is no voip light. I am copying below my PING and TRACERT results after these changes (and subsequently rebooting all devices).

Does this prove anything? Maybe that airtel is blocking something. This might be the last straw and just pull the plug on airtel and go back to good ol' BSNL.

ok its confirmed now Airtel is blocking Sipphone and almost all sip servers belonging to betamax :O 😡 :madness:
