Hey, I have an Airtel ADSL 16 MBPS Broadband. It was working pretty fine before.

Nowadays if I restart the modem, it does connect the DSL Light but Internet light doesn't come.

I have to wait for luck or restart few times to have the third light.

Special Note: Third light doesn't blink. It's totally out/off.

What to do? What's wrong?

Modem: TD-W8970 300Mbps Wireless N Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router - TP-Link

@igloo @manojrk @Karan @wecaz @waterloo_sunset Please suggest!

Were you able to connect before? Did you change anything in the GUI? Your modem is able to sync but can't authenticate on the network. Possibly wrong username/password or could be the VPI/VCI that is not correct. Could you (if possible) take a screenshot of the WAN part of the config, could tell you better.

@Karan Of course it was working very well before.

I don't think I have changed anything.

I am seeing little bit of frequent disconnection too from last few days. (Since I am facing this problem).

If it is wrong username/password. It wouldn't connect for a second either right. But it does connects randomly (either after restarting again and again until it connects or leave it as it is and pray).

Hmm... settings are indeed correct, could be the same intermittent problems you have been facing with your vdsl as well.

@Karan Well is there any chance if LINE is the reason for this?

Because I am listening bit of voice disturbances sometimes when on call + Downstream Max Rate used to be 21xxx but now it's 19xxx-20xxx

If it becomes 21xxx then the SNR would be down.

So basically modem is showing lower SNR to compensate with the SNR right?

What do you suggest?

2 days ago my SNR even went to -2 or -3

Also, Yesterday my SNR was 8.1 and downstream current and max were near 10xxx

Sometimes I find Facebook.com loading really slow.

My current stats:

My old stats before this problem:

If something is done by the backend like changes in profile of 16MBPS. If they happen to reduce max rate, it would have caused to increase SNR right?

But SNR is same but max rate is fallen which do you think can be because of Line only?

I mean the whole culprit is line itself?

Looks like modem is losing the sync. Have you tried it with a different modem?

@manojrk My Modem is TP-Link isn't it a good modem company? Just curious because it's costly.

I have had rewiring done yesterday direct from sub-pillar to home. (without any joint).

Current Setup:

Blue Box (Sub Pillar) ----> DP -----> Peach Box (to convert Wire into RJ 11 Jackable Port) ---> RJ 11 to Splitter -----> RJ 11 to Modem and RJ 11 to Landline.

I want to add that before 5-6 days ago, it was working very well. But just from last 5-6 days only, I am having this problem.

After rewiring, I have seen a very little improvement in parameters. Not significant.

It's very random again. I am not sure what's the matter.

I have tried using Huawei Modem which came with VDSL, I setup that as ADSL and checked the parameters, it's almost as same as my TP-Link's para only.

What do you say?

Not saying TP-Link's are bad. Yours might be faulty because it seems to lose the sync for unknown reasons. You should try with a spare modem for few days before concluding the line is at fault here.

Okay. @manojrk I will do this test if you are saying so.

I feel it is something because of exchange or something.

I will test though and update here.

@manojrk When I pick up the receiver, It looses a lot of SNR and changes into the Downstream.

And then it tries to come back to the original numbers it had before picking up.

What's that?

Which settings are incorrect?

Can you tell?

Errr... none, I said they are correct. 😛

TP-Link per se isn't a bad company, just known to have issues with buggy firmware from time to time. But then again even the big ones like Cisco Linksys, Netgear etc... all are in the same boat.

If while picking up the phone you hear static or noise then that is the cause of your intermittence. If you turn off the DSL modem and then pick up the phone does the noise go away?

I faced the exact same problem (Static Noise when using DSL and Landline at same) before. Like I mentioned earlier on another thread, the splitter was at fault. There was no micro filter in the splitter that airtel provided and that was the cause for interference.

@manojrk How did you get the new splitter or did you remove it and just using bb and not using landline?

@Karan currently after re-wiring I have not noticed any noise much.

What can be done?

My Max Rate for Downstream used to be 22K-21K but now it's 19K-20K and SNR is also down.

SNR for Down used to be 6.6 or so...but now it's 5.7-6.1

What's wrong here?

It can be because Airtel is adding new connections so because of new connections, it's going low?

Please correct me.
