Recently ported to Airtel...... was curious about 4G experience on Airtel...

I have Huawei Honor 2 Plus..... having Band 3 & 40..... which I guess Airtel uses...

But despite trying many times could not latch to LTE...... it was always HSPA....... at many places....

But when I checked my wife's phone.... Redmi 3S Prime, which has Band 5, it could latch to LTE....

So...... Is Airtel using Band 5 for LTE unofficially in Delhi...

Do give me your feedback....

so vedant told me that airtel does not have band 5 officially in delhi. they would get it once they acquire tata.

Thx.... may be Airtel not activating 4G intentionally to newly ported customer.....

Spent some time on LTE Discovery app....... found out when connecting to Airtel network...... it connects to LTE network for few seconds (I see the 4G signal strength, SNR etc) before it shows the signal on the notification bar..... then it latches to 3G......

makes no sense to be honest! they would like to impress a new customer right away even though they have it for at least 90 days 😀

maybe try with another airtel sim from a friend or family?

I did try the ported sim on Redmi 2 also but there are also latching only to 3G network.... spoke to people at Airtel store..... they said "iss se speed ka to koi issue nahi hai naa".... I did not have time to argue with them....

there has been no response from email to 121...

And Yes as I said on my wife's phone(Redmi 3S Prime) with Airtel sim it shows LTE

actually you might need to get a new sim. when i upgraded to 4g on my phone, they had to replace my sim four times before nexus 6p got stable on their 4g network here in gurgaon.

i did not try the sim on any other phone so hard to say if it would have connected to 4g network on another device.

get a 4g minimum recharge. When i bought new sim it was only showing 3g signal, after 4g recharge my sim start getting 4g network too.
also install app advance signal status and force lte only mode.

128k or 256k sim is 4g.
32 or 64 k is 3g sim.

Airtel 4G is currently live on 1800 & 2300 band.
For 4g on 850 /band5 they need to shutdown tata's cdma network first which has not happened yet.

Airtel network is crumbling in Delhi-ncr. My dual sim phone airtel networks comes and goes.

I think they are upgrading VoLTE on 4G network. may be one of reason.
Though I think many people have come back to Airtel network as data sim in last few months as they offered Jio like offer to almost everyone than previous selected customers only. Offer like 458 & 199 are valid on 2G/3G phones also.

I did the 4G FRC at Airtel store today morning but it did not work at that time, the Airtel store staff had no knowledge about 4G bands...
