You can check it yourself, if you have 4g enabled phone. Airtel has only band 3 [FD LTE 1800 MHz] spectrum [about 8.x MHz], which most phones support. Select 4g/3g/2g in network settings and do a manual search. If you can either find Airtel 4g or find double entry of Airtel 2g, then it means Airtel is testing 4g there.
In MP circle, I can see double entry of Airtel 2g, where the second one is 1800MHz liberated and assigned by them for 4g. They do this for coverage testing before launching 4g on that frequency.
