upi activation could have been included. best would have been to allow sms on paid basis as long as balance is there. but then jio probably does not care about that so trai doesn't as well.

“The Authority, hereby directs all access service providers to enable, with immediate effect, for all mobile subscribers, both prepaid and postpaid, requesting for a unique porting code, the facility to send SMS on short code 1900,” the regulator has said in a two page order on Tuesday.

I do wonder how it works out though. Would Airtel and Vodafone allow SMS to just this number? Also, how does this work on unlimited plans? Included in free SMS quota? Logically, this should be treated equally to emergency numbers. Should work without balance as long as the SIM is active.

I have an Idea sim ( not Vi old Idea sim ) in my spare mobile without any recharges since months ( I think it's more than 10 months ). I have Rs 8 in my account. Tried sending port request but the msg failed. Looks like they haven't still activated yet 🤔

^^^ If SIM is inactive for several months, initially outgoing call/sms stop, and after days incoming also stops. Might be that case.

So that's why I am still not able to send port SMS in vi inspite of having 8rs in my account , means they haven't activated it yet.

USSD and Port SMS should be different I believe.
In USSD we get interactive menu after we dial certain number like *121# from phone dialer.
For porting we send sms, and operator responds back with sms for porting code.

This is under litigation. That’s why it won’t work atm

According to sources TDSAT may move Delhi High Court against TDSAT’s order.

hm. maybe that's why since few weeks I've been getting constant 1GB per day data for a week in my 2 inactive Vi numbers.
