hey!Does anyone know where to buy ADSL splitters in mumbai? Its not possible for me to split at the main line and then have a cord coming into my router..so i was thinking I would place a splitter on each line seperately..Any ideas if they are available in india or can i buy online ?

there are about 2 extentions for each phone line in my house..since i cant split the main line i need to split the extentions seperately..so that if the phone rings and someone picks up and talks the ADSL link doesnt go down....Ive tested it since i got 2 splitters and it works so just need 4more splitters and i'd be happy :) heh

You'll easily get it at Lamington road. If you want something nearby, then try a computer hardware shop....you might get it there. I am not so sure, I understand what you are doing,.......but one things for sure, if you connect the splitter after any extentions in the main line, your speed is going to reduce,

yeah...that's what i'm trying to say...also, if u just need to split lines, u don't really need an ADSL splitter...i'm splitting the lines with normal Rs. 10/- splitters...but those are after the ADSL splitter...so it's working fine for me :)

yeah, same was my experience...it doesn't matter which splitter u're using...what matters is at what point u're splitting...

yup.... as long as the main line is split into 2(need not be data/phone split...can be phone phone split) the speed will decrease n disturbance will come

You are confusing two types of splitters...........The one you are talking about, is a simple splitter which splits the phone signal itself into two parts. The ADSL splitter on the other hand, is a frequency based splitter, which separates data and voice frequencies. They can't be used in place of each other.

Ideally, the ADSL/TEL splitter should be installed at the ingres point of the MTNL line pair coming into your premise. The ADSL pair goes the modem/router and the Tel. pair can be connected to the existing phone wiring in your premise.

However, the above may not be possible because of the way concealed wiring done by contractors. In such case your best bet is to buy multiple ADSL splitters and install them at every phone connection in your premise and then connect the phone equipment to the Tel. jack in the splitter. This will prevent the low band tel. phone equipment from interfering with the high band ADSL signal. In my opinion, do not go beyond 4 extensions. Beware, this topology will impact your connection speed on whichever splitter you connnect the modem/router but it will help you avoid the unexplainable disconnects on the ADSL band and also improve the voice quality on your phones. In Mumbai, Maxcom Electronics on Chunan Lane (off Lamington Road) is one place where you can buy additional splitters.
