You may need Aadhaar to book rail tickets soon

The railway plan will be implemented in two phases, sources say. In the first stage, it will be mandatory to provide the Aadhaar number to avail concessions under various quotas such as for senior citizens, freedom fighters, differently abled, students and unemployed youths. Indian Railways provides concessions in fares to 53 categories. A senior ministry official said the policy in this regard will be approved and implemented in 15 days.

In the second phase, that will take nearly two months, railways will link all ticketing services to the Aadhaar card. This means that a passenger will have to provide the unique identity number at the time of booking a ticket – online or at the reservation windows.

Initially, Aadhaar will be required for booking reserved tickets but later it will be made mandatory for unreserved tickets too. Railway officials justified the move saying this will ensure only genuine passengers travel in trains. They claimed that a majority of people are enrolled with Aadhaar and so this will not affect them adversely.

So foreigners cannot travel on Indian trains? Cool.

Also what is the logic behind genuine passengers? It's a train ticket not a mobile phone. They are going to reject my Voter ID card for my identification? This should play well in Supreme Court.

IRCTC Makes Aadhaar Card Compulsory For Booking Train Tickets; All Passengers Can Get Insurance Now

Linking of Aadhaar cards with train tickets would be mandatory effective December, 2016, which means that passengers who don’t have Aadhaar Card, won’t be able to issue train tickets.

This major collaboration between Aadhaar and train tickets would be made compulsory for both reserved and unreserved categories; besides holding true for online as well as counter tickets.

As we had shared earlier, this is the biggest push for Aadhaar based ecosystem to be ever implemented in India. Already more than 96% of Indians have an Aadhaar Card; and the remaining few would be now forced to apply for one.

The linking of Aadhaar database with IRCTC’s ticketing system is already on, and the process is expected to be over by December.

I think Aadhar is mandatory if u want senior citizen discount.

If you dont have aadhar - you need to pay full amount!

They are also planning to make Aadhaar mandatory for filing IT returns.

The poor and the lower middle class are forced to get aadhaar for receiving subsidies, the upper middle class and rich and forced to get adhaar to pay taxes. This way the government forces the entire population to get Aadhaar but still maintains that it's completely voluntary.

Just filled GST registration.... using Aadhaar verification..... otherwise.... have to get digital signature..
