My requirements with the corresponding budget are quite ambitious, but will be really happy if someone can help me out.

1. Touchscreen
2. Lightweight
3. Resolution greater than 1366x768
4. 1TB hard disk
5. Powerful processor which will perform well for 4-5 years (read - the latest iteration of Intel processors, whatever it is)
6. Minimum 4GB RAM, but would love to have more. Already have 4GB so maybe 8GB shall be nice.

Hardly do I play games. So a gaming laptop is not necessary. A decent GPU to process simple graphics and Photoshop and Corel Draw like applications shall be fine.

Budget not very high. 35-40K approx.

35-40K is unlikely to fetch you a high end touch laptop. 1080 would probably be impossible in this price segment. My niece had to shell out 74000 for a decent configuration. Touch variant was priced at around 86000.

I think so. 1080p laptops offer a bunch of resolution between 1366 and 1920 but I have never been able to find something that works for me. My dad's Chromebook is I believe set at something between these two resolutions because text gets way too small on a 13" display. But I do not remember seeing any laptop that offers a resolution between these two as native.

Get lenovo z-50 , a friend bought a 4th gen i5 with 1080p display and GTX820m GFX for approx 42k Locally

This ticks , all your boxes
Lenovo Z50-70 Notebook (59-442262) (4th Gen Intel Core i5- 4GB RAM- 1TB HDD- 39.62cm (15.6)- DOS- 2GB Graphics) (Silver) - Buy Laptops Online @ Best Price on Snapdeal.com [ @chromaniac please insert your affliate link here ]

and at 40.1k only

Do note this has only 4 Gb ram (add another 4GB stick at 1.5k) and 4th gen Processor not 5th Gen . You can search for a cheaper deal perhaps

There is a significant difference in 4th gen and 5th gen processors. Go for 5th gen if possible (for future proofing). Also 8 gb ram is mandatory. Any thing less is not worthwhile.

heh. yeap. buy the best laptop you can buy when you absolutely need it. that's the mantra.

on related note. HP is charging 5400 for a single chip of 8GB RAM on my niece's laptop. sounds ok? i am assuming getting it from another source would void the warranty?

strange thing is that they are offering two year extended warranty for just rs. 1500. but there is NO OPTION to get accidental damage protection for the same.
