9X Tashan, Spark Punjabi, BIG Magic, Al Jazeera screen images below on Hathway Digital Cable which were added recently.
All of them are encrypted FTA channels right now except Al Jazeera which is a totally free-to-air channel.
Hathway Digital users in the metro cities can expect a lot of channels getting added over the next few weeks.
Huge shuffling, channel additions have taken place in Hathway Digital Cable overnight with some like 9X Tashan, BIG Magic, Spark Punjabi, Soham TV, Al Jazeera added. This is for North Mumbai area from Borivali to Khar.
The local cable operator [LCO] here says Digitalization has freed up a lot of bandwidth with the analog 106 channels bandwidth from 47MHz to 860MHz completely abandoned in October 2012.
So here is how it works...
1 Analog channel of 8MHz bandwidth = 8 Digital channels each of 1 MHz of very good quality, but if compression is applied, then 1 Analog channel = 10 to 15 channels of okay quality.
Going by 8 digital channels per analog ch, it comes to 106 X 8 = 848 digital channels atleast.
The operator is planning to invest in a huge setup of QAM modulators and increase the channel count gradually to 480 by 2013 end.
