does Internet download speed on phones depend on models?

at present, I use a samsung X160 mobile phone. I subscribed to airtel gprs for one day only for Rs.20. It was horribly slow. Will this be the case with all the phones with airtel gprs? or will the speed be higher in MotoMing? In which phones will pages load faster?Also can anyone say on what all factors does speed depend? Does it depend on RAM of phone? or CPU of phone? Browser of phone? Please give more details.
 
Does this phone have EDGE? That does affect max speed this phone can support.
