sify dial up and curse
I am visiting gurgaon this weekend. I need dsl at home in gurgaon. Please help what company best serves the service and where the office is in gurgaon, or website. How long they generally take to install. I need modem(+wifi router, if available). I don't want the hazzle with these people, as I have read in the forum. If you already have a dsl connection, your experience will be really helpful. Speed- anything around 512kb atleast (wonder if we have that speed in gurgaon). Sitting on 2mb here, so 512 will be like dialup 😉 Traffic- atleast 1 GB/month, better unlimited. I pay here just about Rs. 1000 at 2048kb/unlimited (have 3 comps and 1 laptop hookedup). Jesus! They are grabbing us in India, poor service for free 😉

u have three options from what i know in gurgaon.

airtel
bsnl
tata indicom

airtel would be the safest bet.

of these i think only tata indicom provides an unlimited 512K connection for less than 2000 bucks.

for comparable speeds your only choice would be to go for BSNL's limited data transfer packages. and limit your net usage to essential stuff.

I say Airtel too. If 1GB is what you want then the 2Mb/s one for Rs. 250 is good. Other than that you can get the 256Kb/s one for 999 + tax. Dunno if they still double the speed after 11PM for new customers. Inquire bout that.512Kb/s in no way feels like dial-up after 2Mb/s connection. It will be a little slower to download, but for browsing you won't notice any difference.

i am checking out the sites.1 more question, they count upstream+downstream traffic as 1 GB (or whatever), or count just the downstream? (I upload a lot!)

heh surfing on airtel often feels like surfing on dialup 🙂 browsing sites does not always touch peak speeds.i think only MTNL count downloads as data transfer. and that looks more like a technical error on their side. for others, any kind of transfer is counted.

can i buy dsl modem in gurgaon or delhi in market? or it is just the company that will sell/rent the modem? gee, i have a router here that i am not using (using wifi router), may be i should take it with me? I will get connection with my own router?I have read the stories about tata in forum, so that is a no.i hope airtel will work well and hope their support are not useless people. What about cable modems? Do we have that type of connections in the city?

u can surely use ur own router with airtel and bsnl. but u might have to configure it yourself. airtel support is decent. bsnl? you would have to run from one desk to another to get a connection first. tata's dsl service is supposed to be good.

There is that option too. You Tele provides internet over cable modems (SB5100), but they were crap in terms of cust. care and plans when i used to use em a while back. However to their credit they did have very stable connectivity, but so does Airtel . Dunno how much they have changed now.

it does in the footer. i cannot imaging a corporate website to sport advertising.

Can't expect anything more from a company that was first owned by a Gas company and now by a group of Investment bankers. Money at any cost.
