Hi, I am using Reliance Broadnet Unlimited-75KBPs plan. While downloading movies i got nearly 6-7KBPS as an average speed.Can anyone explain why the problem is?Is it the speed we got while downloading or what's the cause for it?Regvasanth

Just for Cal sake 1KB = 8 bits.So the download speeds of 7KB/s => 7*8bits = 56 kbps.Hope that clears the air.

Hi ritu,
I understand it.But 7KBPS=>7*8bits=56 bits/sec,but not kbps,because you converted that into bits.

Please note:
1KBps=1024 bytes/sec or 1024*8 bits/sec.

Please clarify your answer how u got 56kbps

Thanks & Regards

Your speed is 75 kbps. It does not mean that you will get 75 as your download speed . Your download speed will be around 75/8= 9.3 .My connection is 256. I dont get 256 as my speed . It is always around 28 - 30. My actual speed however should be 256/8=32 . So your speed of 7 - 8 is not slow speed but it is actually close to the highest speed that your connection will allow.I read this in some magazine sometime ago. Maybe someone will correct me if i made a mistake.

Here's how it is...

1 KB (1 Kilo Byte) = 8 kb (8 Kilo Bits)
The download speed is measured in KBps (Kilo bytes per second) whereas the bandwidth is in Kbps (Kilo Bits per second)...so, if you are getting download speeds of 7 KBs, your bandwidth is 7*8= 56 Kbps. In your case, it is about 75% of claimed bandwidth...which should not be considered too bad.

Hope it clears your doubt.

Cheers!

Thanks mates !! Both u guys 🙂.Currently for my 128 kbps unltd plan, i am getting not more than 8-10 KBps(10*8=80kbps) during day and not more than 15 KBps(15*8=120 kbps) during nights. So its basically is par for the course, rite guys?
