Hi,

IPTV just got announced. As usual no clear instructions from BSNL how to go about applying, pre-conditions etc. So how do you expect anybody to comment so soon ? I think only techies will try it out initially. And then there is question of trust. Who believes that BSNL will do a good job ? I certainly dont.

cheers.

It's not a question of trust per-se but also also of pricing & other factors. I for one have used the D-Link DSL 502T & it has worked perfectly for me (also with the 3 yrs. warranty thing) unlike the slightly cheaper chinese made-up modems which only gave 1 yr. warranty. Even now D-Link has upped the ante with providing a model D-Link GLB-502T which can go upto 24 Mbps d/l & 8 mbps upload so people can think of it as a long-term investment. Even the one which I have which goes till 2 mbps will be sufficient for me for another yr. I think (unless BSNL springs a suprise & gives a 2 mbps unlimited plan before tht which somehow I don't think will happen) . So unless I know of some reputable concern which has compatible hardware to the BSNL service I'm not going to opt in. Also the prices are not at all attractive.

Hey i saw the huge hoarding outside the BSNL office here in kolkata....i guess a few sets given out for trial or sumthin.....maybe hitting kolkata soon!!!!

No Star Movies, HBO, Zee Cafe, CNN or BBC..so what's left for english movies then.no wonder anybody hasn't tried it out yet 😛

MTNL is giving STAR MOVIES on IPTV, so let us hope English movie channels will be on BSNL IPTV soon. After all BSNL has started IPTV just 14 days ago.

BSNL has plans to launch IPTV in many cities across the country progressively in coming months.

Adding to the competition between direct-to-home (DTH) and cable TV via set-top boxes, BSNL’s Calcutta Telephones unit is set to commercial launch of IPTV or internet protocol TV in April. BSNL’s is targeting 898 cities and towns for IPTV, at a cost of Rs.800 crore.
