The first footage from Captain Marvel was revealed at CineEurope on Wednesday.

There are no details regarding the footage but a Twitter user who has been at te CineEurope event all week, posting photos from each of the presentations, has revealed that a "featurette" for the upcoming Marvel Studios film played. Featurettes typically include snippets of concept art, behind-the-scenes footage, cast and crew interviews, and other never-before-seen details of the film.

Someone in the featurette said, "Captain Marvel is about to take the lead in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe," though the cast or crew member was not named.

Captain Marvel Trailer Introduces Carol Danvers To The MCU

The film is Marvel’s first female solo headline title, casting Brie Larson as a former fighter pilot who finds herself imbued with powerful new cosmic abilities, and gets embroiled in an intergalactic war between enemy races the Kree and the Skrulls.

As for the plot, there are a few intriguing strands here – Danvers' life on Earth and her time as part of the space-bound Starforce can both be seen, though it seems the character's own recollection of her origins aren't exactly clear. What we do know is that Captain Marvel punches an old lady – presumably an evil shape-shifting Skrull, and not just a pensioner who rubs our hero up the wrong way.

Ben Mendelsohn is Skrull baddie Talos, who you can briefly see covered in green make-up, Lashana Lynch plays Danvers’ Air Force buddy Maria Rambeau, and Gemma Chan is Kree sniper Minn-Erva. Then there’s Jude Law as Danvers’ intergalactic mentor Mar-Vell, commander of Starforce.
