We have recently been upgraded to Huawei WA 1003 A modem+router . However we are not abe to connect to the intranet thru VPN . I checked with the previously installed modem and mound that the previos one was having "VPN PASS THRU " option . This feature is not present in the WA1003A. E-mails to the Huawei support centre in India did not get any response except asking us to contact BSNL. Dataone people could not help . Can anyone giude me how to setup VPN pass thru on this modem . Or do we need firmware upgrade .

I am not sure about this since I have had the chance to test vpn pass throug on this modem, but have you tried to forward the relevant ports in port forwarding section of your modem's web configuration? VPN pass through related ports should already be listed in that section. Please read the other few posts of mine in this forum regarding port forwarding in this modem. Follow those steps, but chose your required applications/ports for port forwarding.Let us know how it goes.Good luck.

Tried the port forwading . But could not figure out which ip to select . We have DHCP and all the computer share the internet connection . Individuals dial the VPN server individually from thier desktop.

Hope you would be able to throw more light on this issue .

My suggestion for now is the following:
1. Pick one computer and give it a fixed IP address.
2. In your router, make the port forwarding rule using this IP address.
3. See if VPN passthough works for that one computer.
4. Once you have successfully tested this, we can proceed to the next step of allowing multiple computers to use vpn.

It will be worthwhile to read this first:
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101495.asp
The above page is not for the modem that you have, but it gives the information about what is going on. Pay special attention to Step 5.

Dear bsnluser

Tried your suggestion . We are able to send the port forwading for one ip. and it works ,
But if we are trying to replicate the same rule for other ip, the modem gives error " Error PPTP already in use for ip ......."

it seems to be the problem with the firmware . I had visited the BSNL Boradband ho at calcutta . But they are also not able to provide any sol.

It is possible to get any firmware update for this modem .

Well, as far as I know, you can forward a port to only one internal IP address. For example, to you can forward port no. XYZ to 192.168.1.5. If you try to forward this same to port number to multiple LAN machines, how is the router supposed to know which packets are destined for which machine?

The solution here, I guess, is to use different ports for each machine.

Which brings to me this crucial question: are you trying to connect *to* your LAN machines from the internet via VPN, or are you tring to connect *from* your LAN machines to a VPN server on the internet?

In your first post, you said you are not able to connect to the "intranet" through VPN. Can you explain this fully, by giving examples? I just want to get a clear picture what you are doing before trying to see how to get it working.

lets me explain it first . We have 10 computers in the ofice and the WA1003 woirks as ADSL modem + router ( DHCP enable ) we have a firewall at another site which supprts PPTP protocal . All the computers dial a pfixed ip from their computer thru the VPN dialing protocol from the windows and on verification of the pwd the handshaking takes place . This function is not working after we have uupgraded to the WA1003a from the Smatmax 882 .

Simply speaking , how to enable "VPN pass thru " at the WA1003a .

Port forwading is not working for multiple connections .

Fine, so you have two sites. Lets call the site that contains 10 computers as LocalSite. Lets call the other site RemoteSite. Now explain:
1) Where are your VPN servers?
2) Where are your clients (computers on *which* site dial *which other site*)? I ask because in the scenario you gave above, this can happen in three ways: LocalSite->RemoteSite, RemoteSite->LocalSite, LocalSiteRemoteSite.

Simply speaking, you just forward the relevant ports.

Okay, the above statement was sarcastic -- couldn't help it. You see, the answer I just have is just a single statement. It seems very clear to me. But it won't help you much. The problem is, I am writing something down which I understand but haven't clarified. Similary, you have not clarified what is your network's layout -- so to *you*, it appears a simple problem, but without proper explanations, nobody will understand what you are talking about.

I already explained this in my prevous post. If you want more knowledge about this, I suggest you search google on what is port forwarding.
