I moved to Pune a week ago & got a YOU Broadband connection. The service seems good & all but my only gripe is with the crappy 'Scientific Atlanta' Modem that they've provided. Its a pretty darn old model (Scientific Atlanta was acquired by Cisco in 2005, so I guess its pre-2005). It takes a lot of time to connect, especially after a power cut. I asked them to replace it but they said that since my connection is pretty new I'll have to test it out for at least a month & see if the problem persists. Which got me thinking about the possibility of buying a Cable Modem of my own. I searched high-and-low and was unable to find a single store (online & brick-and-mortar) which sells these things in India. Am I missing something here? Coming from a DSL connection, I find this pretty astounding.
An addendum:
Another thing that bugs me about the Cable Modem that I was provided with is that its a standalone Modem, sans the Router, which means that I have to put my PPPoE credentials in my WiFi Router & that establishes a connection. Sometimes when there's a power-cut or a disconnection, my Router fails to connect when the Modem is back on. Why isn't YOU Broadband providing people with wired Modem+Router Combos? Is it a Cable Broadband limitation?
Thanks.
