Hi guys,Good to see the seperate forum for broadband. Fortunately I got 3 PCs in home, in different rooms. I wanted to share the DataOne ul900 connection with all the 3 PCs so that, all 3 PCs can access internet simultaniously. I dont have any deep knowledge of networking. But I have basics of it. If anyone gives the instructions and schematics of connection. I have applied for the connection. It will require 2 months for processing due to lack of leased lines and modems. Till that I will ready my setup. So any of you know 'how to do it' please guide me. Hurry.

If you want to spend sh*t loads of cash for setting up ur home network... then that's the cleanest and the best option. Other wise the cheapest alternative is to get a hub/switch... and connect it to the adsl modem that bsnl is going to provide. It has routing capabilities as well. Then just connect the the switch/hub to the adsl router with crossover and of course have all your pcs connected to the switch.

You will simply require a wireless router and your problem will be solved.[/b]

OK abcde123, but I wanted to do with cabling. Wireless I cannot afford now, planed to use later. But now I want to do with normal cabling. Will I require switch for that, even if I have ADSL modem Type IV provided by BSNL? Waiting for reply.

No then you wouldn't... as the router itself will allow you to connect 3 pcs... although the router will then need to be set as a virtual server with pppoe dialing.

The simplest way to do it would be as follows :Open your modem/router config page. In lan settings page check if there is option for DHCP. If there is such an option, your problem is solved. Just set the modem in PPPOE mode and connect the switch to the modem. Connect the rest of the pcs through this switch. In lan properties for the pcs under tcpip settings set it acquire ip and dns automatically. In case you have a modem, not a routher, dhcp won't be available. In this case look at your modem's ip address. It would be most probably like 192.168.x.ySet up your pcs to use the following ip addresses then :192.168.x.a , 192.168.x.b and so on. Ensure the ip is different from the modem ip in the last octet only.Set the subnet to 255.255.255.0Set the gateway to 192.168.x.ySet the dns to 192.168.x.yThere, you are donePS : an 8 port switch will cost around 800. A 4 port switch cum wifi router will cost you 1900 You decide which is better value for you.

Hello,You can go for BSNL Type-III or Type-IV modem, Type-IV is a Wireless Modem (which i use), this modem comes with 4 RJ45 (Lan Connections) 1 USB. Use RJ45 to connect your pc's from the ADSL modem directly and configure MODEM to connect automatically in PPPOE mode. In Type-IV you can even make your home a Wi-Fi Zone( Which i have). You just need the RJ45 Cables, ask any Computer Tech guy to crimp it for you.ThanksArmaan

Hi arm,
I have decided to go with wireless. I want to setup the same system (3 Desktop computers sharing Dataone ul900 coneection) but with wireless. I want one PC directly wired with cat5 cable and other 2 with wireless. Type four modem is sufficient to do that. Now I wanted to ask you that, for using wireless, did you used some wireless card with your ADSL modem provided by BSNL? Did you purchased that card seperately? Cost? Because some modems has a slot to insert that. What is your model? Does it need that?
As I have Duplex home, and my room is on 1st floor, I wanted to place the modem there. I will share that with my own computer (which is in same room), my dad's computer (which is on ground floor) and brother's computer (which is near my dad's room i.e ground floor). Now Can I be able to do that? Do I need the PCI Wireless Network Adapter card for each PC? What will be the cost of that card? What is the range of the modem? If I could get the 3d map, can I post it onto this forum to be more clear with my setup? How?
