Hi Forum,I need help in buying an ADSL Modem for my Airtel BB Connection. Uptill now I've been renting RB Comtec modem from Airtel which has been working flawlesslythrough USB 1.1 (I do not have an ethernet card installed). Now i wish to buy my own modem.I've narrowed down my chioce to two1. D-Link DSL 502T (Avail for Rs 1650/- in Nehru Place, New Delhi)2. Netgear ?? 602 (Avail for Rs 1700/- in Nehru Place, New Delhi)The dealer has strongly recommended Netgear.Pls tell me if both these are fully compatible with Airtel; and in future if Airtel give 2Mbps will these work?Do these routers have built-in modems? Does the Netgear model work with both ethernet & USB?Pls recommend the Best option.TIA

Both have 1 USB and 1 Ethernet.
Im using the D-Link GLB (not DSL) 502T and its working flawlessly for me.....
Check out some reviews of Netgear on net
Here are Neatgear's Specifications http://www.ciao.co.uk/NETGEAR_DM602_ADSL_Modem__5439383
IMO use Dlink DSL 502T......Its used more i think

How much did U buy the D-Link GLB-502T modem for?I my research i've found that the max uplink speed of GLB-502T is 24Mbps whereas it is 8 Mbps for DSL-502T. is it true? Then i think that GLB model is better.

dunno abt max speed thingy....got mine for around 1.7k if i remember correctly (my dad bought it )

Someone recommended Netgear DG632. The DM602 model is old & outdated. I guess I'll buy the DG632 today.Guys, Since the modem has both ethernet & usb conncetivity with the PC, which should I use? I have a 256kbps Internet connection ans am currently using rented nodem in USBmode. Do U think connecting the new modem via ethernet would give a better connection? How much does an ethernet card cost?TIA

Use Ethernet IMO cos USB has a lot of problems.......some of which could be restarting of PC,hanging of PC etc.....Ethernet Card should be between 200-400 i think

if u have a latest pc and having USB 2.0 then there shouldn't be any problems...

Thanks AmbarD, GSV13 & others for your valuable suggestions. This evening I bought Net Gear DG632 3-in-1 ADSL Modem-Router_Firewall from Nehru Place for Rs.1650/- and am now browsing thru it!!!

Good pick. And quite reasonable too. I hope you are connecting using the ethernet connection.

No Wizard, I'm not connecting thru ethernet as i do not have a LAN card in my PC. I'm using USB 1.1 and getting a 224kbps connection speed (as per touchtel meter)! Why did U suggest that I use ethernet? Any advantage over USB?

i guess USB 1.1 gives some problems like disconnecting...if it's stable, then it's fine at this speed of broadband 😛

Hi buddy, does your modem Netgear DG632 combine this ( Netgear WGR614 (only wifi) + Beetel 220 bx)
, or you still need to use your airtel/? modem with it.

I stopped using RB Comtec bcuz it was a rented modem from Airtel. I've been renting it for the past 3 yrs @100/month. So I've paid Airtel Rs 3600/- and still I do not ow nthe modem. When asked they were ready to sell this modem for another Rs 1500/- 🙁 I got my new Modem for 1650/- 🙄 Rajeevji, I do not need to use any other modem with my DG362 as it has a built-in modem.
