Yes but then it just becomes same as "Like" button.

Users can use karma points to reduce ban times, ignore ads,exclusive thread icons, etc

enabled negative reputation for regulars. a user can give 100 positives and 10 negatives in a day. hope that solves the problem.
 
I can see vote down. But there was a reason sites like Engadget and Theverge removed vote down buttons. It creates unnecessary bitterness.

You can not revoke "up"/"down" rating?
Lets say you click "down" rating by mistake instead of "up" rating for a post.
How to undo it?
 
Could not find any option to change that behavior in the backend. Even I cannot change my own rating.

I think you need to cross a certain number of posts before the system promotes you to the regulars group.
