fck this shit.....aritel are just giving excuses.... Major services around the world are up and running.

hell ya !!!!........this is jus a sucky excuse....that cable not damaged bullshit  i had normal speeds until 2 weeks after the quake and then one day the speed graph went underground 🙁 🙁

Same here mate, and plus according to users here. The connections in the south are getting normal speeds ?Which won't be the case if they had a problem coming from thir source itself.....

Hmm i think Airtel is reparing or smtn..... cos speeds are much better today

ya they r doin something and that too in a phased manner, which is why some ppl r getting normal speeds while other r not

Well I am getting close to normal speeds so you must be one of the few unlucky ones.

I am from Bangalore. My speeds were never affected (i can download at 30-32 kbps (b as in byte)). But i suffer from connection problems. Dialer says connecting thru WAN port... and then says server timeout. After 2-3 attempts it connects. There after no problem. But a cable break shouldn't take more than 1 month to fix. This is rubbish. The internet was designed from inception to be Fail safe(the very reason why the US defense agency developed the internet). India is one of the only countries to have at least 3 under sea cable links(Gateways), i.e. from BSNL,VSNL(Now with the TATA's)&,Airtel (I know at least 3, i think Reliance also has one, but not sure) . The other operators lease bandwidth from these 3. I am sure Airtel can shell out cash and buy Bandwidth from BSNL/VSNL/Reliance. But these stingy people won't do that.
BTW Fail safe means that if one route is down, the packets of data find another way and arrive as if nothing has happened.

BSNL is giving it's customers 2MBPS. I think this "cable break due to earthquake not yet fixed" response is given by Airtel to buy time, as they r unwilling to give us more speed.

Thanks for the info dude, and i second you on the normal speeds, i'm from around Bangalore

I am not getting more than 20KBps in day and 45KBps at night time.... Its over month now.... Will it remain like tht 🙁

Come on dude,India is the only country ..?!

AFAIK,
there is ,
SEA-ME-WE 3 (cochin and mumbai landing)
SEA-ME-WE 4 (mumbai and chennai landing)
FLAG east asia (FLAG's aka reliances' ,but bw not exclusively by rel(?),landing at mumbai, also a link from trivandrum)
SAFE (landing at cochin)
TIC(chennai,sg/my)
i2i(chennai,sg/my) there was news recently that airtel bought it fully from singtel..

in addition bsnl link to sri lanka and nepal..

Btw ,Im really interested in these sort of info (also inside info 😛 ),anyone know more of it PM me..

Isp's are using quake to cover their poor service i feel...

I did not say India is ONLY. I said ONE of the Only. Which means a few. Also I have talked about the companies having these Gateways, not just the cables. The reasoning that if one companies cables are damaged they could borrow bandwidth from others still holds.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070112/tc_af...et_070112170621 [BTW this link does not mention India as one of the countries affected by the cable snap due to earthquake]

How about all of us getting together and calling/e-mailing Airtel CC everyday, bugging them about their pathetic response to this situation (2MBPS not provided)? If enough people join in they sure will be fed up.

http://www.danwei.org/internet/quake_damag...ersea_cable.php This link is a must check. It says cables owned by Reliance & VSNL were disrupted (no mention of Airtel). So how come only Airtel's subscribers suffer. Even the comments (mostly Chinese) see a conspiracy (They think somebody is fooling around with The Great Firewall of China 🙂) , which makes me feel very fortunate that the Indian Govt. dosen't (yet) have a firewall in place).
