To book or not to book....

I arrive in Delhi at 11am. I think I would prefer to see the hotel/hostel I'm staying in before I move in. My budget is around £5 (Maybe £10 for first few nights). My question is where should I get the taxi driver to take me in Delhi to find lots of places in this price range? Or.. can anyone recommend anywhere that would be suitable for my first few nights?
