yep, im on 512k plan and i get about 50 to 100kbps (5 to 10kB) upload, if you're on 256k it might be lower but Im not sure what the upload speeds are supposed to be... (this is ADSL, A for asymmetric meaning download and upload speeds are different)

I have Home 500 and my upload speeds are about 8 KB/s i.e. 64 Kbps at its maximum. On a few occasions it got very slow, so much so that I had difficulty sending ordinary emails with small attachments, although download was good. Upload and downloads use different channels in ADSL, as also the voice portion of the phone.

My current DataOne 256Kbps gives me uploads nothing above 6KBps

My previous Airtel 128Kbps uploaded at around 14KBps (full-duplex)

The governmenty stuff always s*cks on something

That probably happened becos the Airtel connection was not ADSL. Under ADSL, the upload and download do not use the same channel. So, theoretically you get 256 Kbps upload + 64 kbps (or whatever) download. The upload should not disturb download and effectively you get 256 + 64 in total. In the airtel connection, if you upload and download simultaneously, an upload at 14 KBps would reduce the speed available for download to that extent (similar to dial-up), as the total is fixed.

So, its not probably the government but the technology.

Airtel Broadband was better than DataOne. Even with half the theoretical speed, Airtel (128Kpbs) gave me 14KBps of upload. My current 256Kbps Dataone is supposed to give me 28KBps. What i get is not even one-fourth of that.

So i really not meant the government, but what goverment does.

So, its not probably the government but the technology.[/b]
Why does government have to use inferior technology always? Don't they suck?

Well said : "It's not the govt. but the technology. !"You all must consider yourself really lucky to get around 8Kbps upload speed on ADSL. I really mean it !!!

dataone connections
d/l - u/l (1/4th)
256k - 64k
384k - 96k (my connection)
512k - 128k
1mbit - 256k
2mbit - 512k (business)

There is a reason why its called adsl asysmmetric dsl. d/l speeds is not equal to upload speed. Even many cable isp's do this.

Now for airtel- airtel is sdsl I think. Many times I was d/ling 12-14KB AND u/ling at 14k at the same time when the connection worked.

i had read somewhere that bsnl would haev 256k uploads for all the connections except the 256k one hehe, but i musta been mistakenanyhow, the online bandwidth tester here shows my uploads between 150 and 160kbps but when i try to run a stream at 128kbps it skips (mp3) at the other end... i usually get 50 to 80kbps more like it, on my 512k line
