Now if Bengalooru was the *original* name before the Brits changed it to Bangalore, then all would be fine. Cept it was called something else before, unlike Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkatta. I had this discussion with a friend sometime ago but can't remember the actual name, maybe some one else can point out. Which makes me wonder whether this name change is temprorary until the rightful name gets put back.Bengalooru was just some quiet sleepy town/village befire the Brits picked it to settle in because of its weather. The older capital was Mysore, of Mysore state, there was no Karnataka before 1956. Before that it was Sringapatnam, before the Brits defeated him.The current name change is nothing but a sop to appease the kannadiga group and assuage their fears that thier langauage & culture is not going to dissapear.
