With $100 a week, man visits all 201 nations without using a plane - World - IBNLive

British globetrotter Graham Hughes has become the first person to visit all 201 countries in the world - without using a plane, the Daily Mail reported. The 33-year-old adventurer from Liverpool used buses, taxis, trains and his own two feet to travel 160,000 miles or 2,56,000 km in 1,426 days - all on a shoestring budget of just $100 a week.

He spent four days "crossing open ocean in a leaky boat" to reach Cape Verde, was jailed for a week in the Congo for being a "spy", was arrested trying to "sneak into" Russia and had to be "rescued from Muslim fundamentalists by a Filipino ladyboy called Jenn". And on Monday Hughes ended the epic four-year journey by crossing into Juba, the capital of South Sudan, which did not even exist when he set off from his HomeTown of Liverpool on New Year's Day 2009.

Thats spending about $20,000 or about 10-11 Lakh rupees, for a 4-year across the world trip

20000 dollars only? seems much less. 🙂

Precisely why this article would get anyone's attention. Also he did not travel by air at all. You can, ofcourse navigate through a lot of countries simply by road.

hitchhiking is a very popular mode of travel in europe and america and it is pretty darn cheap. you get free rides. you can also find folks who would let you crash on their couches for the night for free or very cheap.

Not trying to take credit away from him.But I think few countries he simply did a "touch and go".Its like if u move across top side of India from lower Uttrakhand to upper Kashmir, in a particular path, u can easily cover Nepal, China, Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, TajakistanSo just in a single day u can visit 7 countries.Key is move around the borders of countries. Decide which country to choose as direct bypass.

Getting access to those 7 countries in a single day is not going to be easy provided you go the legal route. The fact that it took him 4 years , 1400 days, it does seem to me that he would have spent atleast half a day in majority of the countries, unless he spent months together in some countries, as its approx 200 weeks 200 countries. So to balance out such anomaly of 7 countries in 1 day, he literally needs to spend a week extra in 7 others.

Yes by average u can say 1 country per week. But then there are certain countries where u dont want to spend a single day due to life risk. Like Afghan. Then there are certain countries where u are forced extended stay due to bad weather. Then sometimes u stay longer because u like a country or u want to visit places there (like most UK countries)Then there are countries where u have to walk instead of getting vehicle. like small countries in Africa. Such countries u wud otherwise clear just in a single day had it been by vehicle. But walking may take 8-10 days. Then sometimes u simply decide to rest for a week for no reason but just to rest.Overall, if u just have 20000$ to spend, u obviously cant do it fast.
