I have been using Windows 8 since Comsumer Preview. Upgraded to RTM a few days after it was released.

probably because you got it along with your laptop which included the cost of the OEM edition of Windows.

Nope. You forgot!! 😀I had ordered Linux based HP laptop. Dealer made me wait 4-5days but could not deliver linux one.I did not tell him anything, but he turned out to be honest guy and he gave me Windows based HP laptop with same hardware specs at cost of Linux one.I formatted it but installed windows 7 on Virtualbox because MCA / Income tax sites use activex and dont run in linux.Actually it had come with Windows XP but HP offered free upgrades to Windows 7 (as part of their scheme). Thats how I got windows 7.

Well, they do offer a free upgrade for people who had bought or buy in the recent past or the ongoing present till it spreads in the market, the reason is to make sure people do not end up skip purchasing or end up switching to a rival platform.
