If the boot screen (metro ui) is the "only" problem, then I believe there are workarounds to boot directly into traditional desktop, install 3rd party menu bars etc... But if there are other things & you dont like to do these add-ons, then yeah, you may be better off without Windows 8.
I have installed Pokki Installer.. Now I am using it , less & less... So, as a gradual change, I am able to accept the new UI.
