Is the Modi Govt Helping Telcos By Lowering the Reserve Price of 5G Auctions?

Reliance Jio stands to benefit the most from the move.

Reserve price for 700 MHz band spectrum has been slashed by nearly 43% to Rs 6,568 crore. The reserve price for the spectrum in this band was set at Rs 11,485 crore in the previous round of auction in 2016.

Moreover, Jio stands to benefit the most from the reduction in reserve price as it is the only player that has cash. The others are reeling under debt and losses, and may not have the appetite for new spectrum purchases.

Of course... Now that Jio exists... No notional loss in selling spectrum for mobile services.

Indian Govt. nets about INR 1.45 lakh crore/ US $18 billion from the 1st round of bidding. Rollout to start Sept and it will cover the country by end of the year.

Jio - 88,078 crore
Airtel - 43,084 crore
Vodafone Idea - 18,799 crore
Adani - 212 crore
Total amount - 1,50,173 crore.

@havoc Why do you say there will be congestion? Is it single provider network congestion or airwaves/radio congestion because of multiple providers? There are guard or separation frequencies/bands to ensure that it doesn't happen.
