Guys, recently bought a dual core processor 🙂 .I hv installed WinXP home edition but i heard tht home edition supports only one processor. Is it true?My frnds suggest tht XP professional is suited for dual core processor.Plz advice....

neither, WinXP Home, WinXP pro support HT, Dual core CPUs. You need their server lines of OSes for effective use of your dual core. OR OR OR Use Linux 😀 It has had support for N core CPUs for like forever! 😀

Q. How does this licensing policy affect products such as Microsoft Windows XP Professional?

A. Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows XP Home are not affected by this policy as they are licensed per installation and not per processor. Windows XP Professional can support up to two processors regardless of the number of cores on the processor. Microsoft Windows XP Home supports one processor.

That’s similar to the way Windows XP works today - if have a dual-CPU machine, you need to install XP Professional to use both CPUs.

XP Prof has much better support for Dual Core / HT processors. Win XP Home disables them explicitly.

running and actually utilizing the powers is diff 🙂

just like microsoft to cripple the product after making the customer pay for it 😛 i just finished my gentoo install and while it took me ages, im amazed at the performance increase over ubuntu 🙄

Tks for tht article mate.It seems tht winXP pro uses both processors as suggested by my frnds. But i feel none of the OS is still designed for dual processors.I hope vista is designed to use both processors efficiently...

oh they would have programmed vista to support multiple processors and cores not just two processors. quar code is coming next month. and intel plans to launch processors with 10 cores by 2010. vista home edition would of course be limited to a single core.

Quad Core is next month? I know it was launched in US, but is it going to hit the market so early? Thought it would go mainstream in 2007....
