My Hotwire sever became prepaid afew days back. I subsequently got myself registered for the 96 kbps unltd package for (Rs.885 ie 734+150 LCO charge)My LCO says he cant renew the connection this month coz he has shifted to sify and majority of his clients have switched to the same. He says the company might shut down in afew months time or relaunch itself under a new name.Dont know how much of it is true but the local hotwire engineer has also left and joined sify, nobody is picking up the phone in the call centre as well.should i subscibe to sify? i have no previous experience with this ISP. Or should i subscribe to Airtel 128 kbps untld. ? wat do u guyz suggest Does airtel offer Broadband connection without subscribing for a telephone connection as well?

Go with Airtel, and Hotwire is not shutting down. Maybe your CTO is saying that but they aren't, in fact they are increasing their availability and speeds.

Airtel has both topup plan as well as standalone where you do not need to suscribe to a telephone connection. Am using only DSL - Rs 1200 month 256 speed and download cap of 4 GB and no telephone facility.

hate to say this but i have been on sify for the past 20 days. The service is comparable to that of hotwire in terms of server downtime and speed. Maybe its My LCO who is giving better service then others. I am getting a constant 7.5-7.9 KBps on the 64 Kbps unltd package. The bad part is the download speed cap which seems to come into operation once i download more than 100 MB.Dont know what the hype about airtel customer service is all about. I have called them up twice, they dont even know if they are providing the connections at my place although the website cleary mentions that the connection is available at my place. On probing the call centre lady further i got the absurd answer " sir, we are giving telephone line in your area but not the broadband". Moreover, they are not ready to give broadband without telephone. I already have two MTNL lines, taking a third one makes no sense for me.I am thinking of shifting to spectranet - my cable network is spectranet. Anybody knows how they provide connections - ie over co-axial cable or cat5 cable?

Same message appears to me, but I would just like to say to everyone here who is thinking of taking the 128kbps connection, don't. Stick to the 96kbps as the speed doesn't increase one bit. It's sort of a rip off and cheat their customers on it. Bad business practice but speeds still relatively good.
