What exactly are you trying to do? The SDK provides you with an emulator

that is probably the best way to get an emulator for android even though it is horribly slow. there might be third party builds that might run in a much different manner but you are unlikely to get the latest and the greatest android releases.

If you want to see Android, YouTube review videos are a much better bet than the emulator. The emulator is for development and looks and works like shit.

from what i understand you need to have a mobile number to authenticate your connection.

Easiest way would be to install virtualbox and use ISO from here.

Download | Android-x86

www.android-x86.org

Then it wont matter if its windows or linux.

nox player is also good/stable. I use it sometimes.

I used the virtualbox method during days when there was no whatsapp web.

I hated using mobile to chat. So I used android on virtualbox so typing wud be much easier on PC.

I havent used android on virtualbox after whatsapp web was launched.

Summary: I have no idea how good it still is. But must be good
