>However, much better then what India used to be. India has famines >until 50s..Famines or droughts dont happen without a reason, you ought to research further into what lies in the past before they came up. Its quite simple - when humans get greedy or follow unethical means, they get an appropriate response from Nature.

Droughts happen even today. Only difference it, they don't result in femine. That is because India has suffecient storage of food grains to provide food in case of draughts.

Example from 2001:
* Chhattisgarh: 10,252 villages in 12 of 16 districts, 9,400,000 people affected.
* Gujarat: 12,240 villages in 22 of 25 districts, 29,100,000 people, 107,00,000 cattle.
* Madhya Pradesh: 22,490 villages in 32 of 45 districts, 12,700,000 people, 8,570,000 cattle.
* Orissa: 15,000 villages in 28 of 30 districts, 11900,000 people, 39900,000 cattle.
* Rajasthan: 31,000 villages in 31 of 32 districts, 33,000,000 people, 39,900,000 cattle.
* Himachal Pradesh: All 12 districts affected, 4600,000 people, 88,000 hectare of crop area.
* Maharashtra: 20,000 villages in 26 of 35 districts, 45,500,000 people, 258,000 cattle.
* Uttaranchal: One district affected.
[/b]

you again missed my point - happening of droughts has a reason, & often its because of mismanagement of land spread out over not just a few years, but decades.

And my point is, with Green revolution we can sustain droughts and avoid femine.

Yeah Reliance could have done it by bribing pramod mahajan but unfortunately it is Congress Govt whose best friend is TaTA instead.
[/b]

Anil is not going to get favors from Congress led government just because he is close to SP and Mulayam Singh Yadav.

I believe he has distanced himself enough from Amar Singh. He was more close to Amar than to Mulayam. He has already resigned from the Rajya Sabha citing 'professional' reasons, but we all know what those 'professional' reasons were. 😉

what about avoiding both
[/b]

This world is not perfect, avoiding both would be great.

But till that happens, avoid what can be avoided.

why our second green revolution will be a worse failure --

enjoy, & open your "corporate eyes" hypnotised by development & progress.

a few lines...
As geographer Michael Watts has argued in his history of the "silent violence" of drought-famine in colonial Nigeria: "Climate risk ... is not given by nature but ... by 'negotiated settlement' since each society has institutional, social, and technical means for coping with risk ... Famines [thus] are social crises that represent the failures of particular economic and political systems."
