I am new to Dataone and want to ask few questions.How can i disconnect dataone connection without turning off modem? I use modem through ethernet port. One way I thought was to go to network connections and right click on LAN and click 'Disable'. Is that the right way to do? Can I do that as many times I want?I also want to know whether any data will pass when I disable LAN.If I disable LAN, will it be equal to 'disconnect' in Dial-up?That is, whether no data will be transfered & no data will be calculated in Dataone meter when I disable LAN.Please help.thanking youShiva

^ assuming that your modem is configured in
pppoe mode ( i.e. it directly connects to the net
without any sw dialer ) I do not suggest to disable
LAN to disconnect .

instead I'd suggest to configure modem in Bridged
mode and use a sw dialer (e.g. rasdialer for win xp ;
raspppoe for win 98 ... etc) to connect to the net .

note : idle modem in power on condition for longer
durations generates much heat and it might affect
the functioning of the modem .

yeah .. seshu is right... u shud connect using bridge mode... then u can actually disconenct the Broadband connection only without disabling/disconnecting LAN.... infact u can disconnect as u used to do it in case of dialup...
