There could be a possible hike in the Tata Sky base subscription packages as well as optional packages after the service tax hike from 10% to 12%.

Not only Tata Sky, it will be applicable on all DTH, Telecom, Restaurant and various products and Services .

It's already done. Grand Sports annual package now costs Rs. 4560 instead of it's previous cost of Rs. 4180. But surprisingly the monthly cost of Grand Sports package remains same as Rs. 380/month. It concludes that there's no discount if you renew it annually. There's still Rs. 250 discount if you renew Supreme Sports Kids package annually.

There is substantial price hike in Mega packages. Mega Lite pack is no longer available. Mega HD package which contains all channels & also includes all HD channels now costs Rs. 6400 instead of it's previous cost of Rs. 5500. However if you are only interested in viewing SD channels then Mega SD package is available in Rs. 5500 but you won't get any HD channels. Plus there's no biennial option available for Mega SD or HD packages.

My suggestion is that if you can make your peace without Ten Sports, Cricket, Action Plus & ACTVE services then instead of going for Mega HD package, subscribe to Grand Sports Annual package & HD gold package. This will cost you [Rs. 4560 (Grand Sports Annual) + Rs. 900 (HD Gold Annual)] = Rs. 5460 while Mega HD package costs Rs. 6400 which is approx Rs. 1000 more. At the time of any sports tournament on any Ten channel, you can simply add that channel for a month.

There are some changes in the prices of few packages.1) Now there is Rs. 260 discount if you renew Supreme Sports Kids package annually which is Rs. 2860.2) Grand Sports package price is increased by Rs. 10 making it Rs. 390/month hence Rs. 4680 per annum.

They are increasing prices but they are not increasing HD channels. It's been only 8 channels for a long time now.

Don't think it is going to increase anytime soon as they do not have enough bandwidth to launch new HD channels 🙁 Movies Now HD was on testing internally, which was completed successfully. But due to lack of bandwidth, that also seems to have been put on hold.

I don't think that Tata Sky could give a lack of bandwidth an excuse. They simply have to rent more transponders to get extra bands. If ISRO is unable to provide then they could rent it from foreign space agencies. Currently Airtel is providing 14 HD channels. That's six more than TS. I understand that Airtel charges Rs. 150 for all 14 HD channel pack which is double in price then what TS offers. But inability of providing the service is disappointing.

They have taken significant amount of time just to introduce Movies Now HD and still taking. What will it take for Ten HD, History TV HD & CNBC Prime HD? I don't care for Colors or UTV Stars but they have to comprehend the changing market dynamics. TS have done well in SD, but they shouldn't fall behind in HD revolution.
