Any idea how to update PRL of Airtel or any other operator in India?

Preferred Roaming List

By updating your Preferred Roaming List, you will have access to these enhancements, which may include:

[*]Longer battery life
[*]Fewer dropped or blocked calls
[*]Clear, crisp connection in even more areas across the United States
[*]Ability to connect to the digital network in more parts of the country
[/list]

PRL is done only in case of CDMA and that too during OTAF. Earlier when Reliance was not having UAS & people were having STD+Number as mobile phone number, then one had to do *228 and PRL was downloaded in each and every roaming city. But now that Reliance have UAS and 10 digit Mobile number, No need to download PRL separately in roaming locations.

GSM Only - Only uses in G/E and never switches to 3G/H. Should have minimal battery usage.

GSM Auto (PRL) - Automatically switches between G/E/3G/H based on the PRL (Preferred Roaming List) for a provider on your phone. Not supported by all providers and may not be supported in certain regions. Should have moderate battery usage since it uses a predefined list to switch.

WCDMA Preferred - Automatically switches between G/E/3G/H based on the best/strongest signal available and is supported by all providers. Has high battery usage since it constantly scans the network for the strongest signal to switch.

WCDMA Only - Only uses HSDPA and will not switch to G/E/3G even if the HSPDA signal is too low. Use this only if you use your phone in a area with good coverage. Should have moderate battery usage.

how is manual 2G network compared to only gsm auto?if manual 2G is selected... will the mobile keep the connection alive till the lowest signal of that tower is reached before latching to hign signal tower of same network provider? If yes,,, it will have more call drops and bad quality voice calls. But will utilise very low battery.

Its similar to CDMA PRL but all these are updated automatically. You remember we have 2 options of selecting roaming network. 1. Automatic2. ManualWhen we select Manual Network, it shows message of Updating network after selection is made. This is technically called PRL downloading and updating. Also now a days, whenever we insert a particular sim card , all PRL are automatically downloded on handset.
