My BSNL connection is extremely slow for the last few days. It cannot be due to data limit too as the speed must have reset on the first of the month. Browsing is slow, pages are taking ages to open and downloading is slow from any popular download or software site (downloading speed is massively fluctuating too when I tested right now). Websites are opening part by part such as portions of header, then other portion of header after sometime, then next portion and so on. When I am testing using speedtest.net website, it is showing 0.2 Mbps download speed whereas mybroadband.co.uk shows 450 kbps or so. I am on a Rs.1900 plan with taxes. But in BSNL speedtest site, it is showing several Mbps and test takes place in a fraction of a second. In fact, BSNL speedtest bangalore is showing 5 Mbps speed whereas I am receiving speed in kbps throughout the day. So, is the BSNL speedtest site wrong. If so, how come the speed test results vary so much between their speedtest site and the other speedtest sites.

Here are a few speedtests I did just now:

https://www.speedtest.net

https://www.speedtest.net

http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk

And here is the BSNL website speedtest result:

I am not sure why they do not build an authentic speed test site or ask their technicians to use other standard speedtest websites such as speedtest.net etc. I have never seen low speedtest results in their official website even when my line is crappy as it seems right now.

There seems to be some problem with BSNL speed test site for sure. Last night, the speed got fixed later in the night but today the slow speed problem has again continued since afternoon. Speedtest.net and other websites are showing 0.1 Mbps or so and sometimes even failing to do the speedtest. But BSNL website is again showing 3 Mbps etc. So, definitely something wrong there. In the links you gave above, only the Optus one is working without any plugin or Java installation and it is showing:

Mirror: Optus
Data: 600 KB
Test Time: 85.16 secs
Your line speed is 57 kbps (0.06 Mbps).
Your download speed is 7 KB/s (0.01 MB/s).

And Youtube streaming and browsing etc. are extremely slow. So, BSNL speedtest website is crappy for sure and shows wrong speeds.

(a)Each test uses about 15 MB at speedtest/ speakeasy etc.useful for U/L plan users.
same test now
http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk
(b))Oz test site you can test from 600KB to 15 MB file size.
a 3MB Picture download test:

(c)Most reliable is download from Microsoft web sites.

(d)Another method : but do not download full file ! and try firmware update etc.
from motive.bsnl.co.in servers whatever your speed d/l max 2 Mbps speed.
( Bonus D/L not counted !)

(e) Try NetworX stop meter for actual surfing speed.
