I have triband connection at home. I am using utstar modem given by mtnl and have connected a better router to it. I think my router is connected in static ip mode and i have to assign an ip and manually key in a dns to each of the devices that I have on the network. While this may have its own advantages, I want to switch to DHCP mode wherein I don't have to do this everytime a new device is to be connected. I went into Lan up setting of the router and clicked on use router as dhcp server. Went into network settings of the laptop and clicked on automatically detect ip address. UT left the dns as such. However the Internet did not work though it showed that I was connected to the network. What am I missing?

unless u post a couple of pics its difficult to help u out.

Would you like to see screnshots from modem or the router page or both?

.
Presume you connect in PPPoE "always On" mode
( userID/PW stored in UTSTAR modem WAn page )
Enable DHCP in modem also.
Select Dynamic IP in wifi router. ( Answer No: do you require an ID PW etc )

Presume IP address of modem is 192.168.1.1 and router 192.168.2..1
Still problem give details of modem make/number and router make/number.
Feedback.

I am not at home right now, so screen shots wont be possible. I am on PPPoE mode on modem. I dont think DHCP enabled in the modem. I did enable dynamic ip in the router but then DHCP was not enabled in the mode. IP address of the router is 10.0.0.1 and my devices thus have ip address 10.0.0.2 10.0.0.3 and so on.
Modem is UTstar UT300R2U
Router is Netgear but the model number I dont remember
