Will it be easier for existing 2G/3G customers of Airtel to upgrade to 4G with the same phone number or is the 4G technology( whenever it is launched )completely different and requires a new connection ?Does anyone have any idea on this ?

As far as in the US the 4g lte service is provided on the same mobile connection as for 3g/2g but 4g access will require different handsets capable of 4g/3g/2g

As of now, BWA spectrum cannot be used to provide voice services as operators are not currently allowed to deploy VOIP (and 4G networks are all-IP).

Is HSPA+ same as LTE ?If not, then the technology is different. So any one having HSPA+ mobile capable of 21 mbps will not be able to access 4G services. For that one would require LTE 4G capable mobile or data card.I am still wondering what difference will a 3.6 mbps vs 21 mbps vs LTE connection make on a moble phone/tablet (eg 3/4/7 inch screen) as the screen is not going to grow.

HSPA+ and LTE are only the same if you live in the US, and even then due to false marketing by the telcos.

In the real world, the technology is different and will require different hardware.
