RIL to ride on RCOM for telecom foray; may launch cheaper tablets at Rs 6000 - Page2 - The Economic Times

Reliance Industries' entry is expected to trigger a tariff war in the data services space, say industry experts. The Mukesh Ambani company may offer data at as low as Rs 10 per gigabit of data, say people familiar with its plans, compared with Rs 100 for most operators now.

The company also plans to source wholesale voice services from RCOM and offer it through bundled deals to its data customers. Both companies will also work towards launching cheaper tablet devices, similar to those offered by RCOM that are currently priced at Rs 12,999 apiece. Officials from both companies have said they plan to bring that price down to Rs 6,000 in about one year.

it will be damn good, but if they tie up it exclusively to their tablets, then it is of no utility

many ppl were expecting them to launch by last yr end itself. Coz of the execution ability of Mukesh Ambani and Ril's 64k CR cash reserve.also the license were given to them last june. already 1.5 yrs wasted on it, as the license validity is of 10 yrs( not sure).

so true,

almost all the news items about the Infotel talks about tablets being offered at low rates. I hope they also have option of USB sticks rather than just the tablets. With high speeds and low tariff they could even get desktop users to buy their service if they have USB sticks as an option.

Also wasn't the launch supposed to happen by this year end or early next year, now the article talks about mid-2012.

Infotel itself had acquired 4G licence in June 2010 and bidding for laying OFC was done in something around May 2011. So, they are quite fast in their work and regarding 64K Cr, I hope he have kept this amount to provide us Rs 10/GB plan and capture the entire market.
