DRS in the spotlight yet again. Horrendous decision by 3rd umpire. Nothing on the hotspot, no sound and yet he gives Khawaja out. Ridiculous!

Guess they need to introduce DRS for decisions made by 3rd umpires :sinister:

Right the limitation is making things one sided. Tactical usage instead of real purpose. Top order Batsman randomly try their luck and tailenders have to bear brunt of howlers (Royals VS Common Man) ...
One minor thing they can right away implement is that decisions which are reviewed and result in On-Field umpires's call as a result should not be penalized as that was a genuine and valid concern of sorts by the reviewing team.
Atleast the 2nd concern looks to be being addressed. It was common sense really..

But a compromise has been suggested whereby a side would not lose one its two reviews if its appeal only failed on the basis of "umpire's call" - the margin of error built in to give the on-field umpires the benefit of the doubt in marginal decisions.

"We will accept DRS when technology is foolproof. There's nothing in between. Full stop," Dalmiya told the Indian Express. "Let them come up with a system which is 100% correct. They couldn't fix the Duckworth-Lewis problem in 15 years, what guarantee do we have about an error-free DRS?
"Before going to the ICC meeting I was a bit iffy as I was told by some quarters that India would be completely isolated on the DRS issue," Dalmiya said. "But after I was done with my presentation on that day, there was not a single voice of protest."

Once again, common sense is lost from ICC

The ICC decided against allowing teams to keep referrals that were denied on an umpire's call out of fear the game would be slowed down too much, even as it approved the introduction of a DRS "top-up" after 80 overs, the Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland has revealed.
We debated umpire's call long and hard, and what was eventually decided was that they wanted to leave that pending for a little while," Sutherland said. "We agreed to the top-up after 80 overs. That will come back on the agenda, and it's not a bad idea. The ICC assessment is that if you don't lose a review for umpire's call, you will increase the number of referrals by at least double, and that will change the game. Everyone likes the idea of the referral being really valuable, and you need to think really carefully about using it, because it all comes back to the howler."
